Taiwan stocks rose 0.55 percent on Wednesday, led by smartphone maker HTC after it launched a powerful new handset that overshadowed the two new models from Nokia. Hon Hai closed 1 percent higher on news its parent group is considering investing $12 billion in Brazil. The main TAIEX index ended up 47.61 points at 8,780.20 in a rebound from a 1.66 percent decline in the previous session.
The biggest winning sectors were transportation and foods, jumping 2.1 percent and 1.7 percent, respectively. Electronics shares rose 0.76 percent. HTC was the most active traded issue by turnover, rising 2.2 percent.
