Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) has nominated Dr Asim Hussain for a vacant Senate seat here on Thursday. The nomination papers were filed at the office of provincial Election Commissioner.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, provincial senior minister Pir Mazharul Haq, law minister Ayaz Soomro, Local bodies minister Agha Siraj Durrani, MQM leaders and ministers Syed Sardar Ahmed, Raza Haroon, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Faisal Sabzwari, PML(F)'s Jam Madad Ali, and Imtiaz Shaikh were also present.
The seat became vacant after resignation of Khattumal. Speaking on the occasion, Rehman Malik said that the present census in the country was an administrative issue and it should not be politicised. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said that special measures have been taken to check target killings in the metropolis. The nominated candidate for senate seat Dr Asim Hussain said that he was grateful to President Asif Ali Zardari for awarding him ticket for Senate and hoped that he will work for the welfare of people of Karachi.
