Goods worth $2.6 billion were exported to Saarc Region during last five years. An amount of $4.122 billion were spent on import of goods from India while goods worth $842 million were exported during the last three years. This information was provided by the commerce ministry to the National Assembly during question-hour.
Pakistan exported goods worth $1571.5 million to Afghanistan, $3.4 million to Bangladesh and goods amounting to $283.1 million to Sri Lanka and other countries. The import stood at $1701.445 million in 2007-08 an $1194.605 million in 2008-09, and in 2009-10 import stood at $1225.567 million. Value of goods exported to India in 2007-08 was $254.858 million, $319.619 million in 2008-09 and $268.332 million in 2009-2010.
While cumulative value of imports during last five years stood at $162.45 billion. Pakistan's imports during last five years were mainly of seven types, which are:
(i) Food viz edible oil, wheat etc, (ii) machinery such as power generation, textile machinery & electrical machinery, (iii) transport mainly road vehicles, (iv) petroleum, (v) raw cotton, synthetic fiber, artificial yarn and other similar products, (vi) fertilizers, insecticides, plastic material, (vii) metals such as iron & steel. Besides these miscellaneous items such as rubber, paper & paperboard were also imported.
