Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly Monday unanimously passed a resolution against drone strikes in tribal areas terming it attack on the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan. The resolution also asked the federal government to summon US Ambassador in Islamabad and convey the message of immediate halt to drone attacks inside Pakistan's territory.
Senior minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour moved the resolution for which the KP Speaker Kiramatullah Khan had already relaxed rules with the consent of the House. The resolution also demanded transfer of drone technology to Pakistan for effective action against the terrorists. Bilour observed that the drone attacks were promoting hatred in the tribal areas as innocent people were being killed in these attacks. He termed the people of areas as protectors of the borders of Pakistan.
The senior minister further said they had neither accepted dictation from any one in the past nor would they do so in future. Reiterating to continue war against the enemies of peace and humanity, Bilour observed that this is in the best interest of the country.
Leader of the Opposition KP Assembly Akram Khan Durrani supported the resolution but said that the government had moved the resolution after getting dictation from some quarters. KP Minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain said the verdict of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding Higher Education Commission was in favour of the government and they were working on legislation in this regard.
