A constitutional petition has been filed before the Lahore High Court (LHC) with a prayer to reopen the case of Ghazi Ilamdin Shaheed. Ghazi had killed a Hindu publisher for disgracing Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and was sentenced to death by the then English judges of the LHC in 1929. The petitioner Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi of save judiciary committee filed this petition through his counsel Barrister Farooq Hasan.
The petitioner has invoked the constitutional jurisdiction of the high court and requests the court to set aside the impugned order by exercising principles of review. He also prays that Ghazi Ilamudin Shaheed be honoured with those state awards being given in these types of cases on international level. Referring to an example of awarding posthumous award, an after death award, in Ireland, petitioner pleads that government be directed to arrange funeral of Ilamudin Shaheed afresh with state protocol and declare him innocent.
