Prolonged power outages have badly affected the lives of people in Multan, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Vehari, Muzaffargarh, Lodhran, Pakpattan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahimyarkhan, Sadiqabad, Bahawalnagar where temperature has shoot to 43 degree Celsius.
People in the above mentioned cities are facing 10 to 16 hours of loadshedding. Agriculturists are forced to use diesel engines to run their tubewells for Kharif crop. The total power generation of the Pepco was recorded at 9,500MW against a demand of 16,000MW, leaving a shortfall of 6,500MW.
The duration of power outages in all major cities has been increased to 12 hours a day while in rural areas it is up to 20 hours. Rural areas of Southern Punjab are facing power cuts for more than 16 hours a day. Electricity is being supplied for an hour after every two to three hours of loadshedding. The residents of flood-hit areas are suffering from eight to ten hours of outages everyday.
The electricity shortfall in interior Sindh including Hyderabad has reached 800MW and the citizens are bearing long hours of unscheduled loadshedding. Temperature in several areas of South Punjab has reached 43 C. In Punjab 10 to 16 hours of outages have crippled the lives of the masses. Continuous loadshedding has affected every aspect of the life of the people as they are unable to take proper rest at home hence do not find themselves fresh to discharge their duties efficiently at their respective work places due to power cuts. Prolonged power outages have also affected water supply to all cities and towns.
