High Commissioner of Bangladesh Suhrab Hossain visited Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry here on Wednesday. Addressing the business and industrial community, he said that he received warm welcome wherever he went in Pakistan and this was clear indication of love and affection between two brotherly countries. He said the purpose of his visit was to further strengthen bilateral trade relationships between two countries.
He said Bangladesh has worked hard and its GDP growth rate during previous year was 6% which is expected to rise to 7% during current year. Bangladesh has tried to control its population growth and encouraged female education, family of every school going girl gets 20 KG rice each month from Government and primary and secondary education is made free of cost.
High Commissioner said that Bangladesh Government has made easy and attractive rules for foreign investment. Pakistani investors can take advantage from this policy and businessmen of both countries could benefit from experiences of each other. Pakistani investors could invest in motorcycle assembling units, as we are very much in need of motorcycles.
He added that Bangladesh is presently importing cotton, cotton yarn and chemicals used for dyeing. He said that Bangladesh has sufficiently improved its garments sector, the businessmen of both the countries with mutual understanding can further improve trade relationships. He added that Bangladesh produce fine quality pineapple. Pakistan could import pineapple from Bangladesh and make value added products.
The Deputy High Commissioner Rahul Alam Siddique of Bangladesh in address said that the visa to Hyderabad businessmen would be issued on the recommendation of Hyderabad Chamber and that he was happy to note that during last 8 months no trade dispute or problem between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been noticed. However, any problem if faced by the businessmen from Hyderabad be brought to the notice of the Deputy High Commission in Karachi, it would help in solving such problems.
President of HCCI Gohar Ullah in his welcome address, said that Hyderabad is located in the heartland of our southern region of Sindh province. It is ideally located on the mighty Indus and is well connected by rail and road network. It has well-developed industrial area and is a business hub of this region. Hyderabad is surrounded by best agricultural producing area in Sindh. It has vast potential for economic and industrial growth, especially agro-based industries.
