Joint Action Committee of PIA Employees (JACPIAE) has demanded increase in the salaries of airline's employees urging that there has been no increase in their salaries since last more than 12 years. Representatives of JACPIAE gathered here on Friday to discuss the long-awaited issues of PIA employees and find solution to them.
During the last couple of years, the prices of every commodity of daily use have sky-rocketed and according to a safe estimate, inflation has escalated more than 90 percent and the price of petroleum has increased by more than 8 percent, JACPIAE spokesman said.
Joint Action Committee of PIA Employees (JACPIAE) demanded that PIA management raise salaries of the employees as there has been yearly salary increase in every government organisation, especially the last year's 50 percent increment in government employees has created an appalling disparity between the salaries of PIA employees and other government organisations' employees.
JACPIAE spokesman said that PIA employees have always been loyal to the national carrier and sacrificed whenever trying circumstances surrounded the airline. Employees and unions have also extended full support to the incumbent PIA management for pulling out the airline from financial crisis and suggested practical solutions for the problems confronting the PIA, he added.
He said it is high time, the PIA management lives up to its commitment by raising the employees' salaries to that extent of matching the high-inflationary trend PIA employees are going through severe financial crisis due to less salaries and barely running their household expenses, he said.
He informed that some unscrupulous elements have again become active to revive the PIA-Turkish Airline agreement and strike a severe blow to the national carrier. PIA employees will take even stern measures than what it had done before in case the PIA management showed any sympathy with these miscreants and the consequences will be far worst than what happened to the last management, Joint Action Committee of PIA Employees (JACPIAE) spokesman warned.
