Punjab government has directed all divisional commissioners to take necessary measures for balloting of Jinnah Abadies applications and call meetings of district Jinnah Abadies Committees and ensure participation of public representatives for transparent allotment of plots.
These instructions were issued by him during a meeting of Provincial Supervisory Board for Jinnah Abadies, held here Monday, chaired by Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, disclosed an official. Khosa said the government is endeavouring to provide residential facilities to shelter-less people of the province and under this programme more than 100,000 five-marla residential plots would be distributed among deserving people.
The meeting was told that 315,361 applications for Jinnah Abadies plots have been received so far and their scrutiny will be completed at all district headquarters at the earliest. The senior advisor said scrutiny process should be initiated at all districts and DCOs should convene meetings of District Jinnah Abadies Committees, adding that scrutiny should be made in the presence of public representatives.
Assembly members on the occasion pointed out that in some districts, officials of revenue department have proposed encroached and disputed lands in connivance with influential people of the area and tried to hide suitable pieces of lands for the abadies. Establishment of abadies on disputed land may result in long litigation.
