The authorities of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP), Government of Sindh, with the collaboration of National Commission for Human Development have launched Women Economic Development Project for economic empowerment of women in Sindh.
Under this project, 580 training centres have been established throughout Sindh province where poor and jobless women, especially those belonging to the flood-affected families are being provided training on priority basis in different trades especially of embroidery and stitching swings.
This was informed by Programme Manager BBSYDP, Asim Raza while briefing the reporters at the outlet stall jointly arranged by BBSYDP and Regional Directorate of Information Department Government of Sindh, Hyderabad on the occasion of three-day festival of a private TV channel. The event was held at public school Hyderabad from April 29 to May 1, 2011 on its last day. Ashiq Iqbal Memon District Co-ordinator BBSYDP Hyderabad and Ghulam Qambar Siyal District Co-ordinator BBSYDP Jamshoro were present on the occasion.
Raza said that in addition to provide training to needy women, his organisation is also planning to provide outlet facilities for the items prepared by these women under training. He said that installation of the stall was a part of this strategy. He said that more than 800 clothes and suits prepared by flood-affected women have been sold out while more than 15 orders of stitching and sewing work booked by different organisations and individuals.
He informed that about 5,000 families visited BBSYDP stall during the three days, out of which more than 500 persons belonging to different segments of the society endorsed their views in the visitor book. They lauded the unique efforts made by BBSYDP for economic empowerment of poor and jobless women in Sindh.
