Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has demanded reconstitution of parliamentary committee on appointment of judges in the superior courts after joining treasury benches by Pakistan Muslim League-Q.
PML-N senior leader Senator, Mohammad Ishaq Dar in a letter to the Secretary, Senate of Pakistan with a copy to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman, Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of Judges in the Superior Courts, wrote "Clause (10) of Article 175A of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, mandates equal representation to the Treasury and Opposition Members from the two Houses of the Parliament in the eight-member Committee, composed for consideration of recommendations of the Judicial Commission constituted under the said article."
In view of the PML-Q having joined the treasury benches, the PML-N leader said the Parliamentary Committee earlier composed and notified in pursuance of clause (9) of the Article 175-A requires re-composition. For the purpose, existing members of PML-Q who were earlier in the opposition, are required to be substituted with new members from the remaining opposition parties in compliance with the constitutional command. He said that the matter is extremely urgent as the recent recommendations of the Judicial Commission for appointment of Judges in the Superior Courts are required to be considered latest by 8th May 2011 as per time frame specified in Clause (12) of the said Article.
Analysts believe that current situation posed to the country demands national unity to overcome threats posed to the country on different fronts. The supporters of PPP-PML-Q alliance are of the view that political re-alignment was aimed at strengthening democracy and state institutions besides putting economy back on track. On the other hand, opponents of this alliance were of the view that this alliance was nothing but an attempt to get political and other gains.
