Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT), in collaboration with four multinational IT companies including Confiz Solution, TKXEC, Technology Accelerated and North Bay Solutions, organise Code Spree 2011 (Intra Lahore Speed Programming Competition) at the College.
As many as 150 students from 25 information technology schools across the city participated in the contest and tested their programming and information technology skills. PUCIT students' team "Code Warriors" comprising Muhammad Umair, Imran Khalil and Aman Ullah clinched first position, University of Engineering & Technology students' team "Trio-Legend" comprising Ali Raza, Jawad Ahmad Malik and Hafiz Iqbal bagged second, while third position was shared by PUCIT team "_BCSF7A" comprising Fawad Ahmad, Muhammad Shaban and Sohail Javaid and COMSATS team "COMSIANS" comprising Sarmad Makhdoom, Agam Saran and Saad Ullah Khan.
Congratulating the winning teams, vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran said success was not possible without developing a will and thoughts in mind. He said there was much talent in our youth and we required a handsome number of qualified teachers to polish the talent. He advised the students to adopt reading habits and invest their extra time in reading extra-curricular books.
He appreciated the services of College Principal Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar and said that Dr Mansoor was a good organiser and the college had made great academic progress during his period. Later, the vice-chancellor distributed prizes among the winning teams. Fifty teams, comprising three participants each, were given four hours to find solutions to seven complex programming problems using C++ and Java.
Programming solutions by the teams of Government College University, University of Engineering and Technology, COMSATS, Lahore University of Management Sciences, FAST, University of Lahore, University of Education and Beaconhouse National University were particularly appreciated by the judges. The programmers were also tested for speed, efficiency, time management and knowledge and method of deriving solutions through PC2 software provided by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM).
