Thousands of incensed Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) workers shifted the gear of their protest drive on Monday and took out a rally from Karachi Press Club (KPC) towards Shaheen Complex, bringing the road traffic in entire area to a standstill for a couple of hours. The protest rally carried out at noon was joined by thousands of protesting workers. Some of them were carrying batons and wearing black armbands.
However, no untoward incident occurred throughout the moving demonstration. The rally culminated at KPC with thousands of workers voicing their demands for assigning them proper duties and restoring the services of 4,000 non-core workers. The scope of the protest would be enhanced if KESC management stuck to its anti-workers policy, warned the protestors.
Around 40 workers of KESC were observing hunger strike outside KPC while hundreds of others join the sit-in on daily basis. They lamented KESC management for not paying heed to their grievances and demands. They threatened to continue the protest unless their demands are met.
