Some unknown miscreants on Wednesday threw two grenades at the Saudi consulate building here in the limits of Gizri police station. According to details, two unidentified men riding a motorcycle, threw two grenades at the Saudi consulate building, located at Khayaban-e-Shamsheer, Defence Phase V, in the limits of Gizri police station. No casualty was reported in the incident.
Following the attack, rescuers, police personnel, investigation teams and Rangers rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The explosives, which hit the seedbed and the wall of the consulate, left shrapnel marks on the outer portion of the building. When contacted, SP Security Foreign Cell (SFC) Mohammed Zahid said that two unknown motorcyclists, wearing helmets, hurled two grenades at the Saudi consulate building. He said that security guards at the diplomatic mission had opened fire on the attackers but they escaped unhurt.
He said that investigation teams and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) had collected samples from the spot and had also acquired CCTV footages. Meanwhile, the officials of BDS claimed that Russian-made grenades, HE-36, having 250 to 300 grams of explosives, were used in the attack. No case was registered till filing of this report.
