Punjab Government would achieve four million tonnes of wheat procurement target in its current procurement campaign, instead of target of 3.5 million tone fixed by the federal government. This campaign would extend to June 5, 2011 and provincial government has established 375 wheat procurement centres for the purpose. Provincial government has supplied 26 million gunny bags to farmers in Punjab so far.
This was disclosed by Chaudhry Adul Ghafoor Minister of Food in Punjab Assembly's 26th session here on Thursday. The session is third one in the current parliamentary year called by opposition. Minister said that they were talking about the care of small farmers in its gunny bags and wheat procurement campaign and would ask the prime minister of the country to ask Sindh CM to take action against those involved in the commodity smuggling.
He said they were moving in line with the vision of its chief minister and had taken action against 41 persons for various infringements in the campaign. In the Punjab Assembly session besides question period on prison department and certain Call Attention Notices, a resolution asking for federal government for remaining profit revenues in lieu of electricity income profits till period 2004-05, already determined be given to the province. It also asked the federal government to determine the same profit income in period onwards 2004-05. The resolution was unanimously passed in the House.
In the House bills: The Punjab Food Safety And Standards Authority Bill 2011, The Factories (Amendment) Bill 2011, The Minimum Wages (Amendment ) Bill 2011,The Punjab Protection of Breast-Feeding and Child Nutrition (Amendment) Bill 2011, The West Pakistan Bus Stands and Traffic Control (Lahore) Ordinance, 1963(Repeal) Bill 2011,The West Pakistan Bus Stands and Traffic Control (Gujranwala) Ordinance, 1963 (Repeal )Bill 2011, The Parks & Horticulture Authority Bill 2011 were introduced by the Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and sent to the relevant parliamentary committees for answering to be given within a month by the Chair.
A motion under Rule 244-A to amend the rules of Procedure of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab 1997 was carried and passed by the Assembly on the occasion. In Punjab Assembly certain Privilege and Adjournment motions were presented during the session. They were either sent to the committees or disposed off on the occasion.
Punjab Assembly during the session saw serious outbursts of legislators on the recent incident of Abbotbad. MPA Noor Niazi termed it the serious infringement of country's sovereignty and asked for giving severe punishment for those involved in it.
Certain legislators emphasised that parliament was the right platform to discuss the incident and suggest action on that. Treasury benches pointed out that their leader Nawaz Sharif in the best national interest asked for a judicial inquiry on that.
Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on being told by Leader of Opposition that their government was a minority government and had President Asif Ali Zardari did not tell him to support Punjab Government in passing of the budget, they would have brought no confidence motion against them, challenged them to bring it the very next day. He said elements giving these test had already been proven wrong earlier and their effort would not be successful again.
