Scores of people belonging to various walks of life on Thursday took out rallies to express solidarity with the country's armed forces and intelligence agencies following criticism by some quarters for the May 02 US unilateral operation in Abbottabad in which Osama bin Laden was killed.
Carrying banners inscribed with slogans like "dignity of homeland is due to Pak Army", "We love Pakistan Army", "We salute to the sacrifices of Pakistan army in war against terrorism", "Live long Pakistan Army," etc, people chanted slogans in support of armed forces and the incumbent government.
Those who participated in the rallies included activists of Pakistan Aman Party (PAP), Pakistan Lawyers Forum and Christian Progressive Movement led by Haji Gulzar Aman, Abdullah Khan and Naila J. Dayal, respectively. Addressing on the occasion, Abdullah Jan, Vice President Peoples Lawyers Forum said that those martyred in war against terrorism were all Pakistanis. He condemned those elements, who were involved in hatching conspiracies against Pakistani armed forces and secret agencies. He stressed the need to revive the spirit of 1971 to forge national unity.
Rao Abdul Ghaffar, representative of Punjab Bar Council said that all the office-bearers have assembled to express solidarity with government and armed forces. Shabbir Chandio Advocate, Vice President Punjab Bar Council said that the country was passing through a critical period. He said there was need to extend support to President and the Prime Minister. Nargis Advocate said that President's reconciliatory policy must be appreciated, adding women of the country were with him. Renowned former cricketer and leader of MQM, Sarfraz Nawaz said that Altaf Bhai had called all patriotic people to come forward. Naila J. Diyal, Haji Gulzar and others also spoke on the occasion.
