Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training, Attock Refinery Limited (ARL) Rawalpindi jointly arranged a seminar on Apprenticeship Training (AT) in Morgah aimed at enhancing awareness among the stakeholders on AT as envisaged in Apprenticeship ordinance 1962, says a press release issued here on Friday.
The speakers representing Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training Employers of Region, CBA ARL and the ARL management also highlighted the importance of apprenticeship training for sustainable industrial and community development.
The chief guest, Saeed Ahmad Alvi, Chairman TEVTA, government of Punjab announced that a polytechnic institute will be established in Morgah Rawalpindi for which MoU was signed between ARL and TEVTA after the seminar. TEVTA is providing apprenticeship training to about 7,000 manpower in 800 operating industries across the Punjab, Saeed Ahmad Alvi said.
He said that Apprenticeship Ordinance, 1962 envisages promotion/development and regulation of the systematic apprenticeship programmes in the industrial units having employment level of 50 or more person. Apprenticeship training in the Punjab is being implemented through Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training (RDAT) under the administrative control of TEVTA at Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Multan and Bahawalpur.
Although, under the ordinance, it is the obligation for the employer to arrange practical and theoretical training of apprentices, in the factories at their own cost, however, to assist the employers Government of the Punjab has established apprentices training centres across the cities with industrial concentration with the objective to provide institutional training to industrial apprentices.
Alvi said that the special measures should be taken to promote apprenticeship training programmes in Punjab including active representation of employer's trade unions and associations in AT matters. Asif Wasim, General Manager (HRM), Malik Ashiq Hussain, Manager Apprenticeship Training, Imtiaz Hussain, Deputy Director, Asif Saeed, Manager (HR) ARL, Dr Tainur Raza, Executive Director, HONDA Centre, Rana Muhammad Akram, General Manager Maple Leaf Cement and leading entrepreneurs attended the seminar.-PR
