Punjab Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that the Punjab government was giving special attention on the promotion of medical education in the province under which 4 new medical colleges had been established, besides increasing the admission seats in the existing medical colleges.
He was addressing a ceremony of 8th convocation of Punjab Medical College(PMC) here on Wednesday at PMC auditorium. MPAs Kh Muhammad Islam, Dr Khalid Imtiaz Bloch and Zafar Iqbal Nagra, VC University of Health Sciences Dr Malik Hussain Mubashar, Principal PMC Dr Riaz Hussain Dab, Chairman Board of Management Allied Hospital Mian Latif and various officers of health departments were also present on the occasion.
Congratulating the recipients of medal winners and MBBS degree passed out students, he said, that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had provided remarkable pay package worth Rs 5.2 billion for the economic relief of the health department employees of all cadres, while the services of more than 4000 medical officers had been regularised. He urged upon the doctors to perform their duties with passion, commitment and full dedication. He appreciated the efforts of the PMC management for successful holding of the convocation.
Earlier, VC University of Health Science in his address said that the Punjab government was spending million of rupees on the education of medial students in public sector medical colleges. He said that doctors should realise their duties and to take care of legal rights of the patients by keeping in view the medical ethics.
He said that the doctors should honour their oath and devote themselves for the goodwill and honour of their profession. He greeted the award winner medical students and advised them to serve the humanity without any discrimination. Principal PMC in his welcome address thanked the law minister and other guests for participating the memorable moments of 8th convocation of PMC.
He highlighted the academic and extra curricular achievements of the college and said that the seminars, conferences and other events had been organised in the college, apprised the faculty members and students about the advancement of medical education.
Chief guest Rana Sanaullah Khan decorated the medals to the students of distinguished positions in various academic examinations of the session 2007-08 and 2008-09. Later the minister also inaugurated the building of Girls Khadija hostel, which had been renovated at a cost of Rs 1.275 million. He also inaugurated the cardiac care unit at Allied Hospital, which had been established with a cost of Rs 2 million on self-help basis. He took a round of CCU and appreciated the medical services being provided to the heart patients in this unit.
