"A lawyer being a professional, always remains in the pursuit of the legal knowledge and he should work hard to assist the Courts so as to provide justice to litigants at their door steps," said the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while taking to the delegation of Lahore High Court Bar headed by Mian Muhammad Jahangir, Vice President, Lahore High Court Bar and other Executive Members who called on him here on Wednesday.
Talking to the delegation, he admired the role of legal fraternity in Lawyer's Movement in which they stood firm during the judicial crises and struggled hard to bring rule of law in the society through peaceful efforts. His lordship added that the movement was supported by the civil society because it was the struggle for the principles. The legal fraternity, during the days of movement, struggled constantly to bring Rule of Law, Constitutionalism and Independence of Judiciary in society, their dream materialised.
The members of the Bar also appreciated his Lordship's struggles and efforts in the days of lawyers' movement, which is unique in the global history and informed about their struggle and sacrifice during the days of the movement. They also appreciated the judgement of Supreme Court authored by his lordship in Intra Court Appeals of PCO judges' case, which has been announced on Wednesday.
They also discussed with the Chief Justice, issues and matters of interest of the legal/judicial fraternity to ensure the supremacy of law in society. They assured the Chief Justice of their full support and co-operation. They expressed the hope that the administration of justice needs his bold and benign leadership and motivation to deliver justice to the public at large. They said that the public have reposed great confidence in the judiciary. The delegation informed his lordship that the movement of rule of law, supremacy of Constitution and independence of judiciary instilled a new spirit and provided a common platform to lawyers to cooperate with one another.-PR
