Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that only those nations survive in the world who have courage to live with honour and dignity. He said that the charities of others would have to be shunned for real economic and political freedom. He said that Pakistani nation had to prove to the world that it could live without foreign aid.
According to information of DGPR received here on Friday, he was talking to Assembly Members of various districts who informed him about development projects and the problems of the people of their respective areas. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government had taken the historic decision to stand on its own feet and give up the charity of others. He said that nature had blessed Pakistan with vast resources and the goal of self-sufficiency could be achieved by their development.
He said that giving up foreign aid was the desire of every Pakistani and it would prove to be the starting point of a national movement for sovereignty and dignity. He said that though it was difficult to refuse to foreign aid but Punjab government had evolved a comprehensive strategy to further curtail non-developmental expenditure and promote the culture of austerity. He said that there was a need to check loot and plunder of national resources and uphold justice. He said that provincial government would develop available resources for uninterrupted provision of funds for welfare-oriented projects.
He said that it was the time to promote trade instead of aid as it was essential for survival. He stressed upon elected representatives to maintain a close contact with the people and spare no effort for resolving their problems. He asked assembly members to ensure timely completion of uplift projects in their respective areas for the benefit of the people.
Assembly members paid rich tributes to Muslim League-N leadership and Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for the bold decision to give up foreign aid. He said that in accordance with the party's decision, elected representatives would extend all out co-operation for the promotion of austerity and reducing non-developmental expenditure.
