Water level in the four live rivers of the country continues to rise due to hot weather in the upper regions, as rivers flow rose to 3,60,000 cusecs mark on Friday. According to 20th May rivers flow and reservoirs level report of Water and Power Development Authority, there has been 70 percent increase in the river Indus water flow, as compared to river flow of 20th May 2010.
The river flow swelled to 1,52,100 cusecs on Friday an increase of 15,000 cusecs in twenty-four hours. Similarly water level in other rivers has also been rising during this week. Water flow in river Kabul, a tributary of river Indus, has gone up to 68,600 cusecs, river Jhelum at Mangla 78,900 cusecs and river Chenab at Marala 55,9000 cusecs.
The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) is discharging about 2,60,000 cusecs water in the countrywide canal irrigation network for sowing of Kharif crops rice, cotton, sugarcane, vegetables and fodders. It is retaining about 95,000 cusecs water in the two main reservoirs Tarbela 62,000 cusecs and Mangla 33,000 cusecs. So far it has stored 3 MAF water in Tarbela dam, Mangla dam and Chashma barrage.
