Institute of Business Administration (IBA) held its first ever inter-university drama competition, 'Drama Fest', where four teams vied against each other to win the coveted prize of Rs 20,000. A number of people flocked to the IBA main campus in spite of the humid weather in order to regale themselves with theatrical antics. The programme began with a short speech by Dr Ishrat Hussain, the Dean and Director of IBA.
He commended the IBA Dramatics' Society for organising the competition and strongly urged students to take part in such activities. Prominent personalities who graced the occasion included Munawwar Saeed, senior TV and Theatre artist, and Sohail Malik, renowned writer, director and producer.
The highlight of the evening was a tribute to late Moin Akhtar. There was a moment of silence for the legendary comedian, and a brief documentary highlighting his most lauded performances. The evening witnessed a moment of poignancy as people stood up in remembrance of the actor whose humour and wit had entertained them for years.
The first prize was bagged by the team from IoBM for their play 'Faryaad', which was about the social ills that plague Pakistani society today. Second prize went to KU-Visual Arts department for a play 'Nadia'. The ZAHARS team from the Arts Council Academy came third with their play 'Bari Daer Kar Di Meherbani Aatay Aatay.'
Salwa Aftab of KU won the award for Best Actress as Nadia, while Sarmad Sabir Khan from Bahria University won the award for Best Actor. The award for Best Script and Best Director was secured by the Arts Council Academy. The event concluded with Ehtesham Ahmad, the Chief Event Organiser of the Drama Fest '11 offering a note of thanks to Dr Ishrat Hussain, the Dramatics Society, judges, media partners Play TV, AAJ News and Business Recorder along with other corporate sponsors.-PR
