Former federal law minister, Babar Awan has said central government would procure wheat from Punjabi farmers, as Punjab government has failed to do the job efficiently. He was addressing a seminar hammering a dialogue titled Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto: Constitution & Justice, at Aiwan-e-Iqbal on Saturday.
According to him, Punjab government is not bothered about the problems of farmers, fearing wheat crop damage due to early monsoon. He criticised the government for slow procurement procedure in the province. Assuring the farmers of not letting them alone on behalf of the central government, Awan said he would pursue central government for procurement of wheat crop from Punjab before early monsoon.
He also lambasted PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for criticising PPP-led central government on Abbottabad incident. He said Nawaz should reply why he rushed to the US while bypassing the parliament when Kargil incident took place. Similarly, why Aimal Kansi was handed over to the US and why joint parliamentary session was not called on both the above mentioned issues.
According to the former law minister, PML-N chief should tell the nation about the embezzlement of rupees four billion collected under 'Qarz Utaro, Mulk Sanwaro' Scheme before urging the government to get rid of the begging bowl. He also pointed out that ministers from smaller provinces have been left at the 'mercy of fragile security arrangements' in Punjab against Nawaz Sharif's recent visit to Sindh where he took Punjab Elite Force Jawan along. Awan said PML-N has proven that it was not able to co-operate with PPP, MQM, PMLQ and ANP in national politics. He said the upcoming era in Pakistan would 'belong to Bhuttoism'.
