Terming speculation regarding US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's visit to Pakistan as unwarranted, the Foreign Office on Wednesday said that no dates have yet been fixed for the visit. Foreign Office spokesman Tehmina Janjua on last Saturday told media persons during an unscheduled briefing that Ms Clinton is expected to visit Pakistan but the dates of the visit have not yet been decided.
Some section of media, however, reported on Wednesday that Clinton would visit Pakistan on Friday but her schedule is being kept 'a tightly guarded secret' for security reasons. Business Recorder approached US Embassy Press Attaché and Country Information Officer, Alberto Rodriguez who expressed his inability to share any information regarding Ms Clinton's expected visit to Pakistan saying "I unfortunately do not have anything for you on that."
The US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Senator John Kerry was in Pakistan last week and held discussions with top Pakistani civilian and military leadership, and at the conclusion of his visit, hinted that the US Secretary of State would soon arrive in Pakistan to develop new 'trust.' Mistrust developed between the two countries after May 2 US unilateral raid that led to killing of top al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Since then three top US officials visited Pakistan last week ie Senator John Kerry, US Special Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Marc Grossman and CIA deputy chief Mark Morrell.
