The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (Ecnec) will meet on Thursday to approve development projects worth billions of rupees. The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, in Prime Minister Secretariat.
Sources in the Planning Commission told Business Recorder that the meeting would approve the 3rd quarter projects of PSDP 2010-11 and review the monitoring reports of mega projects along with programme/performance audit. They said that the meeting would discuss and approve projects of various sectors.
According to the agenda, exclusively made available to Business Recorder, the meeting would discuss establishment of 1000 primary schools for boys and girls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on need basis of education sector, feasibility study, detailed engineering design and preparation of tender documents for Bunji, which is an energy sector project, development of low-income housing schemes at Multan City, Shujaabad town and Jalapur Piranwala Town, urban water supply scheme Benazirabad, Nawabshah Phase-v filtration (revised) of physical planning and housing sector, medical equipment and ambulances for DHQ Hospital in KP and expended programme on Immunisation (EPI) revised pertaining to health sector and up-gradation and additional Works of Expo Centre, Lahore and establishment of Turbines & Power Plants Equipment Manufacturing Facility at Heavy Mechanical Complex, Taxila--an industries and commerce sector project.

(HGMU-30) Class Diesel Electric Locomotives, Installation of Ship Lift and Transfer System and associated Machinery and Equipment to provide Docking and Repair facilities to Surface Ships Submarines and Commercial Vessels (Revised); Construction of Road and Bridges in Gilgit Baltistan; Construction of Rotha - Haryam Bridge and its approaches across reservoir Channel on Mirpur-Islamgarh Road, Construction of Northern Bypass from Bosan Road to Qasim Bela Multan including, approach Road from Northern Bypass to Multan Airport via Jameelabad Chowk Multan (Length 16.05 km phase-II); Rehabilitation / Up-gradation & Dualisation of Multan-Shujaabad - Jalalpur Pirwala- Uch Sharif- Trinda Muhammad Pannah Road (142 km) and Reconstruction/Rehabilitation of 2010 Flood Affected Roads in Lower and Upper Sindh Areas are projects of transport & communication.
KP Emergency Rural Roads Rehabilitation Project, Kala Dhaka Area Development Project (Revised), FATA Rural Development Project (Revised), Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP), IFAD Funded, Multi-Sector Rehabilitation Project in AJ&K, Provision of Security Infrastructure in Malakand, Swat & other conflict areas of KP are the projects under devolution and area development.
Establishment of University at Loralai, Establishment of University at Turbat, Up-gradation of University College of Engineering and Technology and Mirpur into Mirpur University of Science & Technology (MUST), Mirpur (PM Directive) are projects of higher education sector.
Rehabilitation of Flood Damages 2010 in RBOD-I Project, Mangla Dam Raising Project (Revised PC-I), Makhi Farash Link Canal Project (Chotiari Phase-Il) including Feasibility Study(Thar Coal), Extension of Pat Feeder Canal for Utilisation of Indus Water in Balochistan as per Water Accord, 1991, Ground Water Recharge of Quetta, Pishin, Mastun and Mangochar Valleys (2nd Revised PC-I), Rehabilitation/ Reconstruction of Flood Damages to Irrigation Infrastructure in Balochistan, Punjab Irrigation System Improvement Project (PISIP) (Revised PC-I), Lower Ban Doab Canal Improvement Project (LBDCIP) (Revised PC-I), Umbrella PC-I for Sindh Flood Emergency, Reconstruction Project for Bunds and Canals, (2010 Flood)

(b) Restoration of Canals /Structures Damages
(c) Restoration of Drains/ structure Damages are water sector projects. Sindh Skill Development Programme (Component I, II, & III) of manpower and Project for Improvement of Financial Reporting and Auditing (PIFRA-Il) (Revised) of Governance are other projects to be taken up.
