Bullish sentiments dominated on the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) on Friday where equities registered gains amid decreased trading turnover because of the investors' behaviour who adopted conscious approach ahead of weekend. The LSE-25 index was increased by 13.48 points and was ended at 3313.81 points against 3300.33 points of Thursday, while transaction volume was squeezed to 2.971 million shares, as compared to last day volume of 6.211 million shares.
The market opened on a mixed note and remained range-bound during the first trading session, as it moved up and down within a limit of single digit due to lacking interest on the part of investors. However, as soon as the second session commenced, the investors made entries in the oil sector shares including Attock Refinery, PPL, Pakistan Oil Fields and Byco Petroleum. Besides, Nishat Mills, Bank Al-Habib, Engro Corporation, Hira Textile Mills, Thal Limited, Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim, D.G. Khan Cement and Fauji Cement also attracted the investors that kept the market in positive zone most of the day.
However, some investors also offloaded their holdings to secure their positions ahead of weekend. As a result, PSO, Pakistan Refinery, Treet Corporation, Habib Bank, United Bank, Bank of Punjab, Silk Bank and Pakistan Reinsurance ended in negative zone.
The losers were marginally ahead of the gainers. As many as 25 companies, out of a total of 108, posted gains, 28 recorded losses, while values of 55 companies remained unchanged at their overnight closing. Thal Limited gained Rs 3.10, Attock Refinery was improved by Rs 2.40, PPL was appreciated by Rs 1.59, while Pakistan Oil Fields and Nishat Mills were up by Rs 1.51 and Rs 1.49, respectively.
PSO lost Rs 1.26, Pakistan Refinery was declined by Rs 1.10, Flying Cement shed Re 1.00, while Treet Corporation was down by 90-paisa, respectively. Bank of Punjab with trading of 857,454 shares topped the volume leaders, while Byco Petroleum stayed as runner up with trading of 297,500 shares.
