Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government under the leadership of Quaid Pakistan Muslim League-N, Mian Nawaz Sharif has taken a historic decision of renouncing foreign aid, and it would be proved by implementing that decision that living nations could also live by developing their indigenous resources setting aside charity from others.
He said that such charity as might stigmatise the honour and dignity of the country, had been the heartfelt desire of each and every patriotic Pakistani. He said that nations could never become prosperous through foreign aid and it was the candid proof of the fact that Pakistan despite having received billions of dollars past 63 years in loans and foreign aid, but it failed to bring about a qualitative change in the life of a layman though only the elite class benefited from it while the common man was still landed in the quagmire of the problems.
He was talking to Assembly members belonging to various districts here on Saturday. Elected representatives apprised the Chief Minister of pace of development works and problems of the people of their respective areas.
Dilating with them, the chief minister said that getting rid of foreign aid was need of the hour for the real economic and political freedom. and the historic decision which was taken by the Punjab government in that regard was the heart's voice of every Pakistani from Khyber to Karachi.
He said that history was witness that the nations taking difficult decisions in the war of their survival always succeeded. Pakistan is also fighting war of its survival and existence and the entire nation particularly elite will have to give sacrifices. He said that enemy wanted to destabilise the motherland and grab our atomic assets, but we would not hesitate from any sacrifice for protecting these assets.
He said that nothing was more important than that of freedom, honour and dignity of the country. He said that it was the pledge of Pakistan Muslim League-N that it would make Pakistan a great country under the leadership of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and would transform it in accordance with the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. He said that 1400 years ago, Holy Prophet (PBUH) had guided us to live an honourable life and we could make the country an Islamic welfare state by acting upon the Islamic teachings and His 'Uswa-e-Hasna' where justice is supreme and everyone enjoy equal rights.
He said although decision of rejecting charity of outsiders was a difficult one but living nations march forward by taking hard decisions. He said that after the decision of renouncing foreign aid, we would further curtail non-development expenditures and promote austerity. He said that Punjab government has already promoted austerity and has set a glaring example of saving Rs 6 billion in non-development expenditures. He said that there would be no shortage of funds for the public welfare projects in the next financial year and special attention would be paid to the education, health and clean drinking water projects. He asked the assembly members to keep close liaison with the people and ensure timely completion of development projects in their respective areas so that people could benefit from their fruits at the earliest.
Assembly members paid rich tributes to the leadership of PML-N and Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on the bold decision of renouncing foreign aid. They said that as per decision of the party, elected representatives would extend all possible co-operation for promoting austerity and curtailing unnecessary expenses.
