Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chief Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday rejected the government's newly formed independent commission to probe the May 2 US raid in Abbottabad which led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.
Talking to media after condolence meeting with the family of shaheed Lieutenant Yasir Abbas, Nawaz stated that the government did not consult Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan while forming the commission to investigate the raid.
Parliament and judiciary were being paralysed, he said adding that such tactics of rulers were tantamount to national suicide.
Chaudhry Nisar had earlier written a letter to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, in which he claims that the PM did not consult the opposition on the formation of the Abbottabad commission.
The five-member commission announced by Gilani will be headed by Justice Javed Iqbal, a senior judge of the Supreme Court. Other members of the commission are Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, Lieutenant-General (Retd) Nadeem Ahmed, former police chief Abbas Khan and former ambassador Ashraf Jahangir Qazi. The cabinet secretary will work as secretary of the commission.
Nisar had, however requested that former judges of higher judiciary and civil society members should be a part of the commission. He said that Asma Jahangir, Justice Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, and former justice Bagwandas should also be a part of the commission.
Meanwhile, talking to media following meeting with overseas party leaders in Raiwand, Nawaz Sharif said that masses would not be left at the mercy of corrupt leadership.
He was optimistic that PML-N leadership, under its clear roadmap, would take masses out of critical crisis like inflation and unemployment.
