Two-week training workshop for university and college teachers on 'incorporating technology in education' organised by the Faculty of Education Sindh University in collaboration with Higher Education Commission.
The certificate awarding ceremony was organised at the Faculty of Education Hyderabad which was presided over by Pro-Vice Chancellor Sindh University Campus Dr Parveen Shah.
Speaking on this occasion Dr Parveen Shah said that information technology during the last two decades in particular has pervaded all spheres of human activity and added that IT is playing a pivotal role in our lives.
She said that yet most of schools lag far-behind when it comes to integrating technology into classroom learning and added that properly used technology will help students acquire the skills they need to survive in a complex, highly technological knowledge based economy.
Dr Parveen Shah said that integrating technology into classroom instruction means more than teaching basic computer skills and software programmes in separate computers class. She said that technology also changes the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means. It also enhances the relationship between teacher and student.
Dr Shah said that the University is fully geared to help the teachers for development of teaching skills at par with modern standards of education. She urged upon the teachers to use their skills for the benefit of the students in the University as well as in colleges. She also appreciated efforts taken by the Faculty of Education for teachers training in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission.
Dr Parveen Munshi Dean Faculty of Education speaking on this occasion highlighted the main features of workshop and also academic ongoing programmes of the Faculty. As many as 25 participants attended the training workshop, 19 from various teaching departments/ campus of the University and 6 participants from affiliated colleges and institutes. Eleven well-known persons having sound background of Information Technology from University of Sindh, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology and Isra University Hyderabad impart the training. Three modules of 36 credit hours were completed during two weeks training.
The training programme focused on equipping higher education faculty with the latest and state of the art Information Communication Technology tools and techniques. Appreciation certificates were also distributed among participants, experts and organisers of the workshop. Ms Saira Soomro Course Co-ordinator, Abdul Sattar Gopang, Muhammad Ali Pasha and others also expressed their views on the occasion. Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh Pro-Vice Chancellor Badin Campus, Ms Fareeda Shaikh Principal Dr N.A Baloch Model School, deans of various faculties and Director/Chairpersons of various institutes and departments also attended the event.
