Population Census Organisation (PCO) has decided that more than 60 thousands blocks would be established in Sindh province during the census which would be held from September 12 to 27 2011. During the house listing, 35,255 blocks were made by the PCO in Sindh province.
About 4450 blocks in Larkana division, 5607 in Sukkur division, 7891 in Hyderabad division, 3708 in Mirpurkhas division and 13,595 blocks would be set up in Karachi division respectively.
Reliable sources inside the PCO Sindh chapter office told Business Recorder on Monday that this decision was finalised at a high level meeting, which took place in Islamabad a few days ago. The officials of Population Census Organisation discussed the good and bad experiences of House listing in detail and took decision in the light of those experiences. It has been decided that every block would be consisted on 300 to 350 houses, which would be a standard size.
The officials have discussed that if number of blocks would be increased than number of enumerators in Sindh province will also be increased, sources said. Besides, they have also decided that lady enumerators would be trained for the census as they could work more effectively in rural areas of Sindh, sources added. It is pertinent to mention here that over 20 thousand enumerators had worked during the house-listing in Sindh of different departments, including education, revenue, local government and others.
They all were male and no single lady enumerator was trained for the said purpose.
The Sindh Census Commissioner Noor Mohammad Laghari has informed about the recent decisions of Population Census Organisation to the hi-ups of Sindh government.
While talking to Business Recorder Sindh Census Commissioner Noor Mohammad Laghari said that census would be more difficult in comparison of house-counting so we have to increase and enhance the blocks, enumerators and material which would be required during the census process, he added. He said that 15 days are enough for us to complete the census process.
