Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday said that secret fund was a property of journalists which could only be used for welfare of journalist community.
Talking to media persons outside Parliament House, the minister said that her Ministry had all details of secret fund expenditure including the names of individuals who got benefit from it and the money spent on the overall welfare of the journalist community.
Clarifying a misconception, she said: The fund can not be utilised for any other purpose and no other government department is authorised to use it." The minister further said that budget was a relief programme for the nation and it should be mandatory for every member of the Parliament to take active part during budget discussion but unfortunately some people did not take interest in the debate.
Dr Firdous said it remained a usual practice that the treasury benches always supported budget document and the opposition criticises it but besides criticism the opposition was also responsible to give a parallel implementation plan to guide and help the government.
