A tug of war between rival groups in Lyari that claimed dozens of lives in a short span is again moving towards gang-war, sources said on Tuesday. According to sources, the incidents of relentless targeted killings in Lyari are creating milieu for gang-war again, adding that the groups of Lyari gangsters, which had been undercover since 2008, have surfaced again to show their dominance in the area.
They said the law enforcement agencies, which have presently appeared toothless to overcome the prevailing law and order situation in Lyari, have to draft a comprehensive strategy to rule out the possibilities of imminent gang-war, which is likely to be taken place at any time.
They were of the view that although heavy contingents of law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert such incidents, the same could not be brought to an end without political determination. Meanwhile, the Napier police have registered a case (76/11) under section 324/34 of Pakistan Penal Code against Akram Baloch, Abid Bangali, Bilal, a nephew of Arshad Papu, etc on the complaint of Habib-ur-Rehman over murderous attack on former chief of defunct People's Amn Committee (PAC) on Monday night.
When contacted SHO Napier police station dispelled the impression of possible hand-grenade attack on the convey of Uzair Baloch, saying that around six to eight unknown armed men, riding on three motorcycles, fired multiple shots of repeaters on the convey of Uzair Baloch, when he was returning home from a meeting in Ghanchi Para on late Monday. Former chief PAC Baloch remained safe in this attack but his dozens of associates sustained bullet wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment.
