Direct bilateral trade between Pakistan and Germany is doing quite well. This was stated by the German Consul General in Karachi Dr Christian Brecht. He said that the trade volume between both countries in 2010 was 11 percent higher as compared to the previous year. He said that as of 2010, Germany had become the fifth largest investor in Pakistan.
The German diplomat made these remarks during an informal discussion at a lunch hosted by prominent solicitor A.R. Sattar in honour of diplomats, CEOs of multinational companies and businessmen. The venue was Abaan, the newest Lebanese restaurant that opened its doors in May. Sattar while welcoming the guests said it was an informal gathering to meet and exchange ideas.
The German Consul said that in his opinion, Pakistan seemed to be doing very well as far as trade was concerned, as Pakistani exports to Germany in 2010 were higher than imports from Germany. He said the exports from Pakistan to Germany had risen 22 percent over the previous year. He said there were many areas where Pakistan could benefit from co-operation with Germany and alternative energy was one of them.-PR
