Model Collectorate of Customs (MCC) has foiled another bid to import huge quantity of liquor in the guise of diplomatic cargo. According to sources, the collector MCC PaCCS has received a tipoff that some unscrupulous elements would make another attempt to import huge quantity of liquor under the garb of diplomatic consignment.
Reacting on the said information, a team, headed by In charge of R&D section of the collectorate, has started monitoring of all cargo imported from Dubai. Resultantly, the team has identified a container, which was imported from Dubai in the guise of diplomatic consignment of an embassy of a friendly country that the Pakistan has brotherly diplomatic relations.
They said the team has collected all necessary information from the relevant quarters and also got confirmation regarding the non-diplomatic status of the cargo from the protocol office of the Ministry of Foreign affairs, Islamabad. They further said the team has seized about 4,848 litres of foreign origin Whisky of different brands worth Rs 15 million during examination.
The FIR in this regard was registered in the Special Judge Customs & Taxation Karachi while the efforts are being made to take the responsible importers to task, they added. It may be mentioned that the department had also seized second consignment of liquor imported under the garb of diplomatic cargo in a short span of a month.
