The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has reserved a hall of Expo Centre to display work created by students and youth in the 8th International. The KCCI is organising its 8th Flagship International 'My Karachi, Oasis of Harmony Exhibition 2011" from July 22 to 24, 2011, at Karachi Expo Centre, which would be another sequel to KCCI annual international events.
The President of KCCI, Mohammad Saeed Shafiq, said that this year the chamber has booked 6 halls, instead of 4, and two halls have been allocated exclusively for students of universities in the country and youth to display their innovative products, free of cost.
He said that the chamber has also decided to give Rs 1 million prize to the best item created by students. He said that the purpose of this is to encourage students to come forward and make efforts to produce or develop new products, and to provide them a platform to display and introduce their creative work among businessmen so that they may adopt them for commercial development.
He said that the country is passing through serious economic crisis, and creating new jobs for young educated unemployed generation has become difficult. He said that the idea is to encourage youth to go for self-employment rather than looking for jobs. He said that the young generation is extremely capable to develop new products, and added that the students of NED University have developed solar car. Likewise, boi-diesel has been developed.
Saeed contended that this year KCCI has taken extra measures to organise the event in a more vivid and stylish fashion, with dedicated halls for students, international participants, and for women entrepreneurs. It would be a complete exhibition in all aspects, encompassing the interests of corporate sector as well as the consumers and truly representing Pakistan in terms of cultural cross-section in a unique urban scenario.
The KCCI is holding its annual event for last 7 years and this is for the first time that the chamber has reserved two halls for students. The chamber started this mega exhibition in 2004 with the initiative of Siraj Kassam Teli, the then President of KCCI, which received acclamation on both national and international forums. In view of its significance and magnitude, the government of Sindh co-hosts this momentous exhibition every year.
Core objective of this mega event is to project and promote the true and real picture of Karachi and Pakistan with emphasis on Karachi as centre of commercial activities as well as hub for financial, economic and industrial activities of Pakistan. My-Karachi Exhibition is a showcase platform for domestic and global products and services to small traders, large industries, FMCG manufacturers, service providers, multinational companies, financial institutions and social welfare agencies of Pakistan.
