Rates moved both ways on the currency market on Thursday in process of trading, experts said. The rupee after maintaining a stable trend for few sessions, failed to retain its level, losing 18 paisa for buying and selling at 85.72 and 85.75, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the fourth Asian trade dollar extended its gains from the previous day as sovereign Asian players bought it back after the Federal Reserve confirmed it was ceasing its $600 billion bond-buying programme at the end of June and gave no hint of further economic stimulus.
Sterling slumped to three-month lows against the greenback after the Bank of England raised the prospect of offering more stimulus, in contrast to the Fed. The yuan ended down slightly against dollar on Thursday after the People's Bank of China set a weaker mid-point, tracking a stronger dollar index.
Indian rupee was trading at Rs 44.89 versus dollar, Malaysian ringgit was available at 3.0315 in terms of the greenback and Chinese yuan was at 6.4696 in terms of US currency.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its overnight level versus dollar for buying and selling 85.80 and 85.95, they added. The rupee also rose by Rs 1.33 against euro for buying at Rs 121.67 and selling at Rs 122.17, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee failed to continue rising trend and remained under pressure against the dollar in the local currency market on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar staged recovery and appreciated its worth following fresh buying in the open market. The dollar was traded at Rs 86.00 and Rs 86.20, as its buying and selling rates against the overnight closing of Rs 85.80 and Rs 86.00, respectively.
On the contrary, the rupee maintained upward slide and further improved against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates were further declined to Rs 138.00 and Rs 139.00, as compared to Wednesday closing of Rs 139.00 and Rs 140.00, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar remained firm against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 85.70 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.70 (buying) and Rs 85.80 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.40 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) against the overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.40 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
