British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Thursday assured co-operation to Pakistan in fighting the scourge of terrorism. "Co-operation with Pakistan in fight against terrorism is imperative to take this decade-long war to a logical end," Hague said during his visit to Police Lines Headquarters Islamabad along with Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik.
The British leader paid glowing tributes to the martyred policemen and laid floral wreath at National Police Martyrs' Monument. IGP Islamabad Bani Amin Khan, DIG (Security) Dr Mujeeb ur Rehman, DIG (Headquarters) Ahmed Mukarram, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SSP Headquarters Zubair Ahmed Hashmi, SSP Ehsan Abbas, SP Abdul Ghaffar Qaisarani and other officials of Islamabad Police were also present on the occasion.
"United Kingdom is very much dedicated to co-operation with Pakistan in combating terrorism," Hague said. He said the purpose of his visit was to acknowledge the services of policemen who sacrificed their lives in fighting against terrorism. More than 5000 policemen have sacrificed their lives in war against terror of which 3000 were martyred last year.
Hague said that people of UK had sent their sympathies and condolences for the families who lost their loved ones in the fight. "We equally share your sorrows. United Kingdom and Pakistan stand united to defeat this menace at this critical juncture," he added. Interior Minister Rehman Malik thanked the visiting dignitary for his visit to police line headquarters to pay homage to martyred officers.
Malik informed the visiting dignitary that names of more than 500 martyred police officers have been carved in the minarets, while Safwat Ghayur Shaheed Police Martyrs Gallery has also been established in the vicinity of the monument to pay homage to the souls of valiant FC commandant and other martyred personnel.
Rehman Malik told Hague that names of martyred personnel of four federal police organisations, four provincial police organisations, AJK police and Gilgit-Baltistan have been displayed on the stones of the monument. Hague and Malik also met with the families of martyred cops of Islamabad police as well the heirs of Marriott blast victims. Rehman Malik issued immediate orders to solve the problems being faced by families of the martyred cops.
