In Pakistan, prenatal care and the quality of life experienced in the early years from birth to the first eight years highly affect the physical and mental development of children, and lay the foundation for cognitive, psychomotor and socio-emotional development in subsequent stages of life.
Therefore, investing in the field of early childhood development and education leads to high economic returns. It is the most cost-effective strategy to break the inter-generational transmission of poverty, and improves productivity and social cohesion within societies in the long run. These were the views expressed by Sarmad Tariq, Member, Boards of Trustees of Hashoo Foundation, Pakistan, while speaking as the Chief Guest at a Certificate Distribution ceremony, organised by the Foundation to award training completion certificates to 55 teachers under its Early Childhood Development (ECD) Teachers Training Programme.
Sarmad Tariq applauded the efforts of the Foundation for building the capacity of female teachers in modern and scientific methods of education. "These trainings are particularly significant from the perspective that childhood is a critical period of life. Experiences during this formative phase of personality have a lasting impact on the development of one's intelligence, character and social behaviour. If this window of opportunity is missed, it would be much costlier and harder to build a successful life later", he added.
Ali Akbar, Country Director Hashoo Foundation, Pakistan in his address stressed the importance of sharing the training learning by the trainees with others. "Our children are our collective future and it is a responsibility for us all to provide them with the best of everything. The objective can be achieved only if we adopt, as a practice, an attitude of sharing our knowledge and best practices gained through trainings", he added.-PR
