The Lahore High Court (LHC) was informed on Thursday that big city allowance with arrears had been paid to a senior headmaster of government high school Raiwind Road, who had filed contempt of court petition. A deputy secretary finance Tariq Mehmood along with a provincial law officer appeared before court of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and also presented a cheque handed over to the petitioner.
The court however, observed that every aggrieved teacher could file separate petition and the court will do justice. The court also directed the law office to do the needful in this regard if any petitioner sought time to seek instructions from the authorities. The petitioner Abdul Rasheed said to the court he had pleaded for implementation of big city allowance on all the teachers serving at schools of city district government Lahore. On previous hearing, Punjab secretary finance Muhammad Tariq Bajwa had undertaken that "Big City Allowance" will be provided to teachers of city district government Lahore schools within seven days.
Abdul Rasheed, senior headmaster at government high school Raiwind Road, filed contempt of court petition submitting that secretary local government and community development had issued a notification on June 29, 2005 with regard to provision of "Big City Allowance" to all teachers serving within the limits of city district government Lahore.
He said a single bench of the high court on November 14, 2008 accepting a petition had directed secretary finance to issue notification for the grant of the allowance. However, the secretary challenged that order through an intra court appeal but the same was dismissed.
