The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Board (PLDDB) is going to impart training to first batch of 200 Artificial Inseminators (AIs) and 200 Women Livestock Extension Workers (LEWs) from the month of coming August. These young men and women will get a training of three months each in their respective fields. On completion of their training AI technicians will be given Artificial Insemination kit, a motorcycle, camera and mobile.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PLDDB Major General Muhammad Ali Khan (Retd) said this while talking to Business Recorder here on Thursday. General Manager PLDDB (Field Services) Dr Naveed Niazi was also present on this occasion. Regarding the project of AI Technicians, CEO PLDDB disclosed that the Board is going to launch an extensive programme to train Artificial Insemination (AI) technicians.
There are only 900 AI technicians working with the Punjab Livestock Department while around 3,000 are in the private sector whereas provincial requirement is 16,000 technicians, he said and added that the Board in first phase will train 2,000 AI technicians over a period of three years.
He said that these trainees would sign an agreement with PLDDB that after successful completion of training they would serve the project for three years. The training would be done in collaboration of the Punjab Vocational Training Council in its selected institutes as well as in CEBG, UVAS, UAF and other institutes by the qualified trainers.
Muhammad Ali Khan hoped that these AI technicians, once active in the field, would be earning from Rs 25,000 to 30,000 per month. Regarding women extension workers, he said in the rural areas, the livestock is mainly looked after by the women. In the breeding of livestock, heat detection and insemination at proper time plays a significant role. Through this project, a middle or primary pass rural woman would be trained and equipped as focal person for this purpose. Modular need based trainings would be given to these women workers preferably in their own localities. These would also work to intimate Artificial Inseminator technicians about their need to certain livestock farmer.
