Collector, Model Custom Collectorate of Appraisement, Abdul Rashid Sheikh has said efforts are being made to facilitate importers. Speaking at 4th meeting of customs and valuation sub-committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday, Sheikh said that the department was revamping Express Clearance Facility (ECF) and efforts were underway to clear 60 percent consignment under green channel.
He further said that initially 500 companies, which had good reputation in the past, would be allowed to avail this facility. The department would conduct 10 percent random checking of the consignment meant for clearance under green channel, he added.
He further said that a business center would be established at the Collectorate to facilitate businessmen. The center will have all facilities like computers, the internet and photocopier. The center will provide facility to examine document, assess value of goods and clear goods in the shortest possible time. President KCCI, Mohammad Saeed Shafiq said that the system of valuation of goods is outdated and it requires revamping on priority bases. He said that the KCCI has summated a comprehensive valuation system to the Federal Board of Revenue (FRBR) for its consideration and adaptation.
