Chief Commissioner, Regional Tax Office, Abbottabad, Pir Pervez Alam has said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is trying to broaden the tax net and minimise the burden of tax on existing tax payers in the country.
Addressing a meeting of the office-bearers of Haripur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hattar Industrial Estate Association, representatives of trade associations of Haripur and tax consultants, he assured prompt action on the issues of the business community, especially the holding of desk audit of the organisations and helping out to e-filing of returns and statements.
Hayat Mohammad Additional Commissioner RTO Office Abbottabad, Mumtaz Ahmed Assistant Commissioner Inland Revenue Haripur were also present at the occasion. Chief Commissioner asked the business community to come forward and help FBR to achieve the revenue targets, as this is the only way forward to bring prosperity to Pakistan.
He further said that FBR is trying to broaden the tax net so the burden on the existing tax payers should be minimum and in this regard, Chamber of commerce and trade bodies can facilitate the Tax officials who are working on the policy of documentation of the economy and all those who are out of tax ambit will be brought into tax net for which facilitation centres are established in Hazara Division by the Regional Tax Office supervised by the experienced staff and officers.
While replying number of quarries raised by the members of chamber of commerce, chief commissioner directed the officials of RTO Abbottabad to settle down all issues on priority basis as FBR wants to be more friendly relations with business community, he added.
Meanwhile, Regional Tax Office Abbottabad has notified all sales tax registered persons and organisations to file their due tax returns on or before 15th of each month to avoid penal action against them by the department. Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Tayab in his circular has invited all the sales tax payers to fulfil their obligations to file the return in due date otherwise fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed and commissioner of Regional Tax Office Abbottabad is empowered to depute any officer at the premises of the tax payers weather it is hotel, factory or other organisation to monitor the sales and business transactions.
So all those who fail to deposit their taxes or depot less taxes can face either legal action from the Sales Tax Department (Inland Revenue Department). If any official is deputed and tax payer is not co-operating with the tax officials can face the fine of Rs 25,000 and imprisonment of 3 years or both.
