National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) has urged all citizens to renew their expired Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) immediately to avoid any inconvenience in legal, financial and other matters. Nadra GM Punjab of Lahore region Colonel Muhammad Iqbal (Retd) expressed these views here on Thursday.
He said more than 9 million CNIC cards have expired till this date and thus renewal becomes must to avoid any inconvenience. "The expired cards are automatically blocked by the system and cannot be used for any transactions relating to sale and transfer of property, opening or operation of bank accounts, foreign travel and many other activities that require identification of an individual. Also, machine readable passport could not be obtained without a valid card," he added.
According to him, Nadra has instructed all its centres and staff across the region to facilitate applications for renewal on priority basis and facilitate the application even 90 days before the expiry date on the card. Moreover, no documentary proof except the original CNIC card is required for the renewal, and also no attestation is required in this connection. "If an applicant gets his/her card renewed at an age of 56, his/her card is declared valid for life time.
