The dollar got an opportunity to go up versus the rupee on the currency market on Saturday, experts said. The rupee shed 15 paisa in relation to dollar at 85.95 and shed 14 paisa for selling at 85.99, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: This was year-end payments which pushed dollar up and this factor forced the rupee keep itself in a negative territory, experts said. At the weekend euro dropped against dollar for a third straight session and hit a record low against the Swiss franc with more losses expected if Greece's parliament doesn't approve a package of austerity measures next week.
Passage is mandatory for the country to secure more bailout funds from euro zone governments. If more funds aren't found, Greece could default on its massive debt, a development that would roil markets. Banks and policymakers moved closer to a deal on Friday.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee depreciated by 10 paisa in relation to the US currency, losing 10 paisa for buying at 86.10 and selling at 86.30, they added. The euro's depreciation in the international market helped the rupee to look ahead so it gained 15 paisa versus the single European currency for buying at Rs 121.73 and selling at Rs 122.23, they said.
