Rejecting results of recently held Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly's election on the pretext of alleged rigging, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Tuesday demanded fresh polls, hinting at approaching the court for cancellation of polls wherein PPP got simple majority in the assembly.
Chief Organiser PML-N AJK Raja Farooq Haider Khan while addressing a press conference along with PML-N leader Sidiqul Farooq rejected the results of the AJK Legislative Assembly's elections and called for fresh free, fair and transparent polls. The PML-N's call for re-polling came at a time when Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has already decided to sit on opposition benches in Centre after PPP-led government got elections on two AJK Assembly seats of Kashmiri refugees in Karachi.
Haider said that party leadership would decide within next two days whether their winning members will take oath or not. He further demanded that the AJK elections commission should discard the fake voters' lists and cancel fake computerised national identity cards to make the electoral process transparent and fair.
He was of the view that the mechanism for holding elections in AJK was against the spirit of constitution of Pakistan. The AJK former prime minister also alleged Minister for Kashmir Affairs Mian Manzoor Wattoo of rigging in the polls, adding that the minister used police force to victimise PML-N voters. He said that all the three major parties PPP, PML-N and Muslim Conference AJK mutually agreed to extend the date of elections till July 08, but he regretted that the minister despite making promise did not honour the commitment and directed elections commission to hold elections on June 26.
Speaking on the occasion, Saddiqul Farooq said final decision about demand for fresh elections for Legislation Assembly of AJK would be taken by PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif on Thursday. To a question, he said that PML-N has all options in hands including going to court to pray for cancellation of the elections. He further said that the electoral lists should also be redesigned to make the electoral process fair and transparent. He alleged PPP for using fake ballot papers to get desired results in the elections.
