Jamaat-e-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan has said that fair elections were impossible under the present rulers. He urged the PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif to launch a joint movement taking all the opposition parties into confidence to expose the rulers and throw them out. While talking to media persons at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said that if the MQM had learnt from the past, it should play the opposition's role.
Munawar said that the situation in the country was changing fast and things were getting worse. He observed that the policy of reconciliation had benefited only the rulers while the masses had suffered. Asif Ali Zardari and his allies were the beneficiaries while the people were in the grip of drone attacks, terrorism, price hike and unemployment, he added.
The JI chief said that it was the need of the hour that all opposition parties unite on a single platform to get rid of the pro-US government. He stressed that the election commission in the country should be independent and autonomous like India where the commission had stopped the Indian Premier from using official machinery and helicopter.
He asked Prime Minister Gilani that what was hampering the implementation of the parliament's unanimous resolution calling for end to drone attacks? He said that if the military operation in Swat had been successful, troops should be called back from there. He alleged that extra judicial killings were continuing in Swat and Buner. He said that the AJK elections were rigged which was highly condemnable as this had damaged the Kashmir cause.
