Long queues were witnessed at many CNG stations in the city due to the low gas pressure after opening two days gas holidays. While talking to Business Recorder Senior Vice -Chairman All Pakistan CNG Association Captain Shuja alleged that Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines Limited (SNGPL) was not giving proper pressure to the pumps because they were giving gas to the rental power plants.
He said that people were facing the problem of low pressure during summers and what will happen in the winter when there was a severe cold weather, he posed a question. Shuja said that the agreement of supply of 152 mmcfd gas to IPPs is going to expire on June 30, 2011 (today). We demand from the government to restore gas supply of CNG sector for seven days without interruption. As CNG stations need only 30 mmcfd gas, which is not a big deal for the government.
However, senior SNGPL officials told this scribe that there was no problem of low pressure of gas at the CNG stations, as they were being given proper gas pressure. They pointed out that the problem of low gas pressure occurred usually on Wednesdays because the tanks of the CNG stations become empty due to two days gas curtailment that creates vacuum in the tanks. This problem of low pressure occurs for some time and after the compressors picks up momentum the problem of low pressure evaporates.
