The Sindh government would add twenty more colleges to its education system from the upcoming academic session, it was learnt on Wednesday. Sixteen out of the twenty colleges would be for girls while the rest would be boys colleges.
According to details, 14 government colleges would start functioning in various areas of Karachi including Degree Boys College Gulistan-e-Johar (evening), Degree Boys College Metroville SITE, Degree Boys College Bihar Colony, Degree Boys College KMC store, Degree Girls College Jamshed Road, Degree Girls College Azam Basti, Degree Girls College Qasba colony, Degree Girls College 11-C Orangi, Degree Girls College Punjabi Club, Degree Girls College Surjani Town, Degree Girls College Safooran Goth, Degree Girls College Buffer Zone, Degree Girls College Gulshan-e-Maymar and Degree Girls College Pak colony, sources said.
The rest six colleges would be functional in various areas of other districts of the province including Degree College Tandoallahyar, Degree Girls College Khairpur Nathan Shah, Degree Boys College Ghora Bari, Degree Girls College Shahdadpur, Degree Girls College Kunri and Degree Girls College Ghotki.
Sources said that the authorities in the Sindh education department had written a letter to Sindh Director General of Colleges seeking its approval for functioning of the colleges from the upcoming academic session, which would start from August 1, 2011.
Sindh finance department, on the request of education department, had also approved Sanctioned New Expenditures (SNEs) of the said colleges a few weeks ago, sources further said. According to documents, 20 principals, 90 associate professors, 246 assistant professors and 374 lecturers would be posted in the colleges. Initially, each college would comprise of 30 to 40 teaching staff. While, non-teaching staff for the colleges would be recruited by the education department later, sources informed. There are 261 government-run colleges in all over the province including 131 colleges in Karachi.
