The National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence on Wednesday stressed for making fool proof security of the national assets and adopting necessary measures for preventing them from terrorist attacks in future. The Committee met here under the Chairpersonship of Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, MNA, also appreciated the steps taken so far by Pakistan Navy.
The Deputy Chief of Naval Staff and Air Vice Marshal, PAF briefed the Committee on the Mehran Base Attack. The Committee was informed that four terrorists attacked the Mehran Base. Two separate inquiry committees were formed. The internal committee has completed its investigation whereas the joint investigation team is still carrying out its investigation. The Committee decided to take the issue again after the completion of the report of joint investigation team.
The Committee was also briefed on the disposal of recommendations made by it in the meeting held on March 14, 2011. It was informed that by implementing the five years business plan, 15 percent overall financial savings can be made by PIA. The Committee recommended that PIA and Ministry of Defence should expedite the finalisation of business plan and the progress be intimated to it.
A Sub-Committee was also constituted to look into the recruitment policy, security measures, salary and service structure of Airport Security Force (ASF). The meeting was attended by Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, Sardar Talib Hassan Nakai, Syed Haider Ali Shah, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro, Dr Talat Mahesar, Captain Rai Ghulam Mujtaba Khurral (Retd), Begum Ishrat Ashraf and Mrs Shagufta Sadiq, MNAs, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Additional Secretary, Finance Division, Deputy Managing Director, PIA, DG(ASF), Director, FGEI (Cantt and Garrisons), Principal, APCOM, Additional Registrar, PEC, Financial Advisor (Military Finance), Administrator, DHA and other relevant officers of Ministry of Defence, Deputy Chief Naval Staff (Operation), Rear Admiral, Pakistan Navy, Air Vice Marshal (PAF), Air Commander (PAF), and other officers of Pakistan Navy and Air Force attended the meeting.
