The Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice here on Thursday disposed of a suo motu case against murder of a boy Shahbaz Butt by police in a fake encounter in Nishter Colony, as police has submitted challan of the case before the trial court. A law officer submitted a report before the court, which said following court's order a provincial level committee had been constituted to monitor police encounters.
DIG Major Mubasharullah (Retd) will head the committee, report added. Meanwhile, Advocate Aftab Ahmad on behalf of two accused constables sought permission from court to become party in the suo motu proceedings and argued that his clients were wrongly implicated in the case. He alleged that the station house officer (SHO) was the main culprit, but was not even interrogated due to his relation with additional IGP. The chief justice asked the counsel to file a separate petition in this regard.
